TOUR  8: FRUIT BREEDING, NURSERIES AND MARKETING (IFO&IRHS)

TECHNICAL TOURS ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17th 2022 PM :

  • Booking is required and the number of participants per tour is limited.
  • The closing date for booking technical tours is June 15th 2022. Late booking may be possible, subject to availability.

The tour will highlight pomefruit breeding activities. It will stop at two sites both located in the vicinity of Angers and illustrating two programs linked together.

 

Apple breeding & Variety development at IFO

A guided tour of the 21ha experimental orchard will present i) the different stages of the breeding process which lasts between 15 and 20 years and ii) the evaluation of new apple rootstock varieties coming from numerous breeding programs around the world.

Prebreeding program at INRAE/IRHS

The visit will present the upstream part called « prebreeding » which include i) the creation of progenitors combining various sources of resistance from germplasm collections; ii) the development of breeding tools (molecular markers, phenotyping tools, …)

 

About the Institute – The Research Institute of Horticulture and Seeds (IRHS) is a research unit created in Angers in 2012, under the auspices of INRAE, Institut Agro Rennes-Angers and the University of Angers to develop research projects on quality and health of horticultural crops and seeds. It promotes interdisciplinary research, collaborative projects and favors pooling of equipment.
