W17 : How are plant variety rights contributing to growth and sustainability?

Moderators: Orsola Lamberti & Jens Wegner, Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), France

The workshop objective is to gather evidence on how plant variety protection positively contributes to innovation, economic growth and environmental sustainability.

During this workshop, legal and technical experts from the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), the official European Union (EU) agency responsible for granting and managing plant variety rights in the EU, will present the benefits of the system for plant breeders and the society at large.

The moderators will present a new European study that gathers evidence on the positive economic and environmental impact of the Community Plant Variety Rights system, the EU system for plant breeders’ rights based on the UPOV-91 convention.

A discussion, sharing experience and Q&A session will follow with all participants.
